This course previously offered by Acu-free and written by the late Dr. Holmes Kaikobad is approved by the NCCAOM 2 Credits.
In “Ethics Laws and Rules”, we discuss the relationship between the practitioner and the patient and abuse of power, patient confidentiality and listening to the patient, recognizing the limits of the practitioner’s competence and referrals, patient consent, reviewing patient’s progress at regular intervals, how to deal with a patient who wants to discontinue treatment and go elsewhere, dealing with an unstable patient, patient who requests their records, selling the practice and how to handle patient records, storing patient records safely, intimacy and emotional attachment to a patient. Keeping professional boundaries and taking a leadership role with the patient, not losing your temper with a patient, getting a patient’s permission before painful procedures, having an adult present when dealing with minors, not accepting gifts from patients, and treating patients with AIDS or incest/rape victims.
